The tradition of Bauhaus University begins in 1860 as the “Saxon Art School of Grand Dukedom”. In 1907 the “Saxon School of Arts and Crafts of the Grand Dukedom” founded by Henry van de Velde was added. Walter Gropius merged both schools and founded the “State Bauhaus in Weimar” in 1919. Today the Bauhaus-University follows the basic idea of re-interpreting the Bauhaus ideas of totality of the visual disciplines and the unification of art and technology. For this reason the Bauhaus University now offers studies in the disciplines of architecture, civil engineering, design and media.
FACULTY OF CIVIL ENGINEERING
The faculty of civil engineering is a fundamental anchor of the Bauhaus University. The work of the State Bauhaus (oder …of the traditional Bauhaus movement was based….) was based upon the motto of the unity of technology and art. The faculty attempts to extend the motto to business and the environment. As a result, it has the task of assuming the overwhelming portion of teaching and researching mathematics, information technology, the natural sciences as well as their technical, economic and ecological components. Currently, the faculty offers programmes(britisch spelling) in civil engineering, materials science, construction technology education, infrastructure and environment engineering, and construction, real estate and infrastructure management.
